A Beginner's Guide to Professional Brazilian (XX/XXX) Waxing:

What You Need to Know!

Written By Adele | Edited By Chrissy – Creative Little Soul

If you’re thinking about booking your first professional XX/XXX wax, congratulations on taking a step toward smoother, more confident skin! Brazilian waxing (or XX/XXX waxing) can seem daunting for first-timers, but with the correct information, you’ll feel relaxed and ready for your appointment with us!

  1. What is Brazilian (XX/XXX) Waxing?

Brazilian waxing is a hair removal method that removes hair from the entire bikini/pubic area.

XX – is typically top & sides, leaving a ‘landing strip’ (a thin strip of hair left at the front)

XXX- is the full monty! Where everything is taken off for a smooth finish.

  1. Is Brazilian Waxing Painful?

It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous about the pain, especially if it’s your first time. Everyone’s pain threshold is different, but the good news is that the pain is typically short-lived. Over time, regular waxing can make the hair grow back finer and thinner, and the pain often lessens with each session.

You can take a pain reliever (like ibuprofen) an hour before your appointment to help manage the pain.

  1. What to Do Before Your Brazilian Wax Appointment?

Preparation is key to ensuring a smooth and successful Brazilian waxing experience. Here’s what you need to do before you come in:

  • Hair Length: For the best results, your hair should be about 6-10mm long (around a grain of rice). If it’s too short, the wax might not grip the hair properly, and long hair can cause discomfort.
  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate your bikini area a day or two before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and reduce the chance of ingrown hairs.
  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent irritation after waxing.
  1. What Happens During the Waxing Session?

We’ll walk you through the process to ensure you’re comfortable and prepared. Here’s a general overview of what to expect:

  • Consultation: Your beauty therapist will discuss your expectations and any concerns you might have. We’ll ensure you’re clear on each step and the look you’re going for (e.g., complete removal, XX/XXX, etc).
  • Waxing: After your therapist prepares the area and applies a soothing oil to protect your skin, they’ll apply warm wax to small sections of your bikini line; the rest of you will be covered with a towel. A cloth strip is pressed on top and pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth… & repeat!
  • Post-Care: After waxing, your beauty therapist will apply a soothing lotion to calm the skin and reduce redness. Any irritation will subside after a few hours.

  1. How to Take Care of Your Skin After a Brazilian Wax

After your Brazilian wax, it’s essential to follow a few aftercare steps to keep your skin smooth and avoid irritation:

  • Avoid Hot Showers and Baths/Swimming: Avoid hot water & fragranced soap or swimming in rivers/pools for the first 24 hours as it can irritate your freshly waxed skin.
  • Exfoliate Gently: Once the redness has subsided (usually 24-48 hours after waxing), gently exfoliate the area 2-3 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs and keep the skin smooth.
  • Moisturise: Moisturise the area with a soothing lotion or oil to keep the skin hydrated and calm.

  1. How Often Should You Get Brazilian Waxing?

For optimal results, we recommend coming in for a Brazilian wax every 4-6 weeks. This allows your hair to grow back to the ideal length for the next session, and with regular waxing, your hair may start to grow finer and sparser over time.
