Say Goodbye to Ingrowns:

Expert Tips for Smooth, Bump-Free Waxing Results

Written By Adele | Edited By Chrissy – Creative Little Soul

You’ve just had a wax. Your skin feels silky-smooth. You’re glowing, feeling on top of your game.

Then… bam. A few days later, those annoying, itchy little red bumps appear.

At Beauty Spot, we believe waxing should leave you feeling confident, not frustrated. Ingrown hairs are common, yes… but they’re not something you have to “put up with.” With the proper aftercare and some skin-smart habits, you can stay smoother, longer… without the bumps.

Whether you’re a seasoned waxer or a first-timer, we’re sharing our expert, real-world advice to help keep your skin calm, clear, and glowing between appointments, along with product tips and professional care trusted by Riverland locals.

Let’s ditch the ingrowns for good.

What Actually Causes Ingrown Hairs?

Ingrown hairs occur when hair grows back into the skin instead of growing up and out. This can lead to:

  • Red, inflamed bumps
  • Tender or itchy skin
  • Trapped hairs under the surface

It’s most common in areas like the bikini line, underarms, or legs, especially if:

  • The skin is dry or congested
  • There’s friction from clothing (think: tight gym wear or synthetic underwear)
  • Dead skin cells are blocking the follicle
  • The hair is coarse or curly

Our Post-Wax Ritual for Happy, Healthy Skin

At Beauty Spot, every wax is followed by soothing aftercare, but what you do at home matters just as much.

Here’s our go-to routine to keep the skin happy post-wax:

Skip the Heat (and Tight Pants) for 24 Hours

After waxing, your skin is more sensitive, and the follicles are open. Avoid:

  • Hot showers or baths
  • Saunas and swimming
  • Tight clothing that rubs (especially around the bikini or underarm area)
  • Let your skin breathe, literally!

2. Soother & Hydrate

We use and recommend a range of post wax lotions that calm inflammation and keep skin soft. Our most popular formulas include.

  • Tea tree and lavender balms naturally antibacterial and soothing
  • Ingrown hair serums reduce inflammation and prevent blockages
  • Hydrating body moisturisers because nourished skin equals less irritation

Ask us in clinic which product suits your skin type and waxed area, we only stock what we trust

  1. Exfoliate – Gently and Regularly

Once it’s been 3–4 days post-wax, start gently exfoliating 2–3 times a week. This helps:

  • Remove dead skin cells
  • Prevent hair from becoming trapped
  • Keep skin looking bright and smooth

We love using a soft body mitt or natural scrub, nothing too harsh! If you’re prone to ingrown hairs, we recommend a gentle AHA-based exfoliant to gently loosen dead skin without irritation.

  1. Keep It Consistent

Regular waxing helps train the hair to grow back finer and more evenly, reducing the chances of irritation. Sticking to a schedule every 4–6 weeks allows us to wax at the optimal stage of regrowth, giving you the best long-term results.

And remember, never shave between waxes! Shaving can undo your waxing progress, leading to more breakage and bumps.
